چکیده

Tailing incorporation into mortars has been the subject of much research in recent years. Despite this, most these studies did not investigate harmful effects resulting from exposure such to an environment containing aggressive agents. This work investigated perlite tailing addition cement CP V-ARI MAX and hydrated lime. The raw materials were subjected chemical characterization (X-ray fluorescence (XRF)) mineralogical diffraction (XRD)), while samples immersed 1 N NaOH solution characterized by XRD, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), compression strength (CS). results showed incorporating tailings mortar investigated. Such a degradation was proven linear expansion compressive experiments accomplished after test resistance alkali–silicate reaction.

Historic Mortars: Characterization and Durability. New Tendencies for Research

A mortar is a material resulting of the intimate mixture of sand grains, a binder (lime, cement, etc.) and water. The properties and characteristic of the mortars mainly depend on the nature of the binder component. That is the reason for which, its evolution with time has been very related to the development of artificial cementitious materials. So, with the consolidation of the Roman civiliza...

Polymer-Cement Composites Containing Waste Perlite Powder

Polymer-cement composites (PCCs) are materials in which the polymer and mineral binder create an interpenetrating network and co-operate, significantly improving the performance of the material. On the other hand, the need for the utilization of waste materials is a demand of sustainable construction. Various mineral powders, such as fly ash or blast-furnace slag, are successfully used for the ...

Acoustic Behavior of Subfloor Lightweight Mortars Containing Micronized Poly (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) (EVA)

This paper aims to contribute to acoustical comfort in buildings by presenting a study about the polymer waste micronized poly (ethylene vinyl acetate) (EVA) to be used in mortars for impact sound insulation in subfloor systems. The evaluation method included physical, mechanical and morphological properties of the mortar developed with three distinct thicknesses designs (3, 5, and 7 cm) with r...

Experimental testing of the durability of lime-based mortars used for rendering historic buildings

To find out which render mortar mix shows the best durability properties, we have designed four ageing tests that aim to simulate water movements, ice formation and salt crystallization in lime mortars exposed to an extreme, but realistic, range of temperature and humidity. It has been found that the response of individual mortar mixes differs according to the mechanism and the agent of attack....
